Emergency Plumber Honolulu

Burst pipes, floods, sewage backups and failed water heaters. Shut off the water if you can, then call.

Water on the floor changes your whole day. If you need an emergency plumber in Honolulu right now, here is the short version: shut off the water if you can, keep people away from anything electrical that is getting wet, and call us. Plumber Honolulu Hawaii works out of 2970 E Manoa Rd in Manoa Valley, a short way mauka of Manoa Marketplace, and we take emergency calls from high-rise units in Waikiki and Kakaako to older bungalows in Kaimuki and townhouses in Hawaii Kai.

We will not promise you a magic arrival time. We do promise that someone picks up, helps you stop the damage over the phone, and tells you honestly when a plumber can be there. Call (808) 649-6750 any time.

You talk to people who work on Oahu plumbing every day, not a national answering service reading a script. Hawaii requires plumbing work to be done by plumbers licensed through the state DCCA Board of Electricians and Plumbers, and plumbing contractors need a C-37 specialty license from the Contractors License Board. You can check any company through DCCA before letting anyone in, even in an emergency. Once we arrive, we explain what failed and what we recommend before we start, in plain English, and we clean up our work area when we leave.

Emergency Plumber in Honolulu: What We Actually Handle

People searching for a 24 hour plumber in Honolulu usually want one thing: a person who answers and knows what to do. Most real emergencies here fall into a few patterns. A supply line splits under a sink. A copper pipe sweating inside a humid wall finally develops a pinhole. A washer hose bursts on the 20th floor and the water heads for the neighbors below. A sewer lateral full of monkeypod roots backs up into the lowest drain in the house.

What sets emergency plumbing repair in Honolulu apart from the mainland is mostly what is not on the list. Pipes here never freeze. Our failures come from slower forces: salt air, constant humidity, aging galvanized and copper pipe, tree roots, and heavy rain in the wet valleys. They work quietly for years, and then a fitting lets go at 9 p.m. on a Sunday.

Every call has the same goals: stop the water, make the home safe and usable, then explain the permanent fix so you can decide without pressure.

The First Ten Minutes: What to Do Before We Get There

These minutes matter more than anything a plumber does later.

Find your main shut-off

For most single-family homes on Board of Water Supply service, the meter box sits in the ground near the street at the front property line, under a concrete or plastic lid. On the house side of the meter there is a valve that stops water to the property. Many homes also have a house-side valve where the line enters the building or near the water heater. Find yours this week, while nothing is wrong.

Condo and apartment shut-offs

In a high-rise, the street meter does not help you. Look for unit shut-off valves behind an access panel near the water heater closet, in the laundry area, or under a sink. Individual fixtures have small angle stops right behind or under them. If you cannot find a unit valve or it will not turn, call building management or security right away so they can shut the riser.

Protect people and property

Turn off breakers to circuits where water is reaching outlets or fixtures, but only if you can reach the panel without standing in water. Move electronics, rugs and papers. If a ceiling is bulging, a small hole at the lowest point with a bucket underneath beats letting the panel come down. Take photos before cleanup.

Then call (808) 649-6750 and tell us what you see. We can often talk you through the next step while a plumber is on the way.

Emergency or Can It Wait Until Morning?

Not every plumbing problem is a midnight problem.

It is an emergency if water is actively leaking and a fixture valve will not stop it, if sewage is coming into the home, if water from your condo is reaching a neighbor or common area, if you have no water and someone in the house depends on it, or if you smell gas. A water heater leaking from the tank itself, not just dripping from the relief valve, is also urgent, because failing tanks can let go completely.

It can usually wait if a local shut-off isolates the problem and the rest of the home works. A dripping faucet, a slow drain, or one clogged toilet when you have a second bathroom can usually wait for morning. Not sure? Describe it on the phone and we will tell you straight.

If you smell gas

Leave the house first. Do not flip switches, light anything, or use your phone inside. Once you are outside and away from the building, call 911 and Hawaii Gas, or your propane supplier if your home runs on a tank. Let them make the area safe. After the utility clears it, our gas leak repair page explains how we handle the repair.

Serving Neighborhoods Throughout Honolulu

Emergencies look different across town because the buildings change.

In Manoa and the University area (96822), our home turf, we see older single-family homes, 1940s fourplexes, 1960s walk-ups along East Manoa Road, and student rentals near UH. Older supply piping, constant valley moisture and flood exposure along Manoa Stream drive the urgent calls, and tenants often need help figuring out which valve controls which unit.

In Waikiki (96815), Ala Moana and Kakaako (96814), and McCully and Moiliili (96826), emergencies are mostly vertical. One failed supply line can travel down several floors, so coordination with building engineers matters as much as the repair. Waikiki's low ground also lets groundwater into underground garages during king tides and heavy rain.

Kaimuki, Kapahulu, St. Louis Heights and Palolo (96816) have many homes from the 1910s through the 1940s, including single-wall Craftsman bungalows. Old galvanized lines and cast-iron drains there tend to fail in more than one place at once.

Downtown and Chinatown (96813), Nuuanu and Liliha (96817), and Kalihi, Salt Lake and Moanalua (96819 and 96818) mix older commercial buildings, walk-ups, apartment complexes and homes in the wetter Pali-side valleys. Near Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, some residents are on the military water system rather than BWS, which changes who to call about a supply outage.

Out east, Kahala, Aina Haina, Niu Valley and Kuliouou (96821) and Hawaii Kai (96825) sit close to the ocean. Salt air wears out exposed hose bibs, valves and water heater parts faster, and Hawaii Kai's condo projects have their own association rules.

How Local Conditions Affect Emergency Plumbing Repair in Honolulu

Salt air and humidity

Green valley and mountain ridge on Oahu

Along the coast, salty trade wind air settles on everything. Exposed copper turns green, galvanized fittings rust, and shut-off valves nobody has turned in years seize. That matters in an emergency: the valve you need most may be the one that will not move. Inland, Manoa trades salt for moisture, and pipes in humid walls sweat and corrode into pinhole leaks.

Older pipe in older homes

Many Honolulu homes built before the 1980s still have galvanized steel supply lines, copper with older solder, and cast-iron drains. Galvanized pipe corrodes from the inside and leaks at threads; cast iron rusts through along the bottom of horizontal runs. When one section fails, the pipe beside it is the same age. Several Honolulu high-rises have needed full drain, waste and vent repiping for this reason.

Rain, Kona storms and the valley

Waikiki and the airport stay dry most of the year, while the Lyon Arboretum gauge at the back of Manoa averages around 150 inches. Kona storms, with south or southwest winds, bring the big events, mostly in the cooler months. On October 30, 2004, more than 10 inches fell in upper Manoa in 12 hours, Manoa Stream overflowed, and more than 100 homes plus UH buildings including Hamilton Library were damaged. On March 23, 2026, after back-to-back Kona lows, Manoa flooded again: water ran along East Manoa Road at Lowrey Avenue, Akaka Place and Oahu Avenue, and Noelani Elementary flooded.

After floods like that, calls come in waves: sewer backups from an overloaded system, water heaters and gas appliances that sat in water, debris in floor and yard drains, and sump pumps that could not keep up. See our sump pump page for low spaces.

Our Emergency Plumbing Repair Options in Honolulu

Burst and split supply lines

Braided supply lines to toilets, faucets and dishwashers are cheap parts that cause expensive damage. The rubber inside ages, the crimp corrodes, and one day it splits under full pressure. We replace the line, check the angle stop it connects to (often the real weak point in salty air), and look at other lines of the same age.

Pinhole leaks in copper

A pinhole often shows up as a hiss in a wall or a damp spot on drywall. We open only what we need, cut out the damaged section and repair it. If we find several pinholes in one run, we tell you, because spot repairs on a pipe failing everywhere only buy time.

Slab leaks

Many Oahu homes sit on slabs with supply lines underneath. Watch for a warm spot on the floor, running water sounds when everything is off, a meter that keeps spinning, or a bill that jumps. We locate the leak and talk through repairing through the slab or rerouting above ground. Rerouting generally needs a plumbing permit through the city's Department of Planning and Permitting; we explain what the job requires and coordinate so the work is inspected when it should be.

Condo leaks, washer hoses and water heaters

More than 60% of Oahu residents live in condos, where leaks cause by far the most damage. Most associations make owners responsible for high-risk components inside their units: supply lines, shut-off valves, water heaters and dishwasher lines. A burst washer hose or failed tank can flood several units before anyone notices. Notify your building manager right away so they can shut a riser and check below. We stop the leak, explain what failed, and give you plain information to share with management and your insurer. For a failed tank, see our water heater repair page.

Sewage backups and overflowing toilets

If sewage comes up through a floor drain, tub or toilet, stop using water so you are not adding to it. Backups usually mean a blockage in the main line or lateral from roots, grease or wipes. We clear the line and, where it makes sense, look inside with a camera. A single overflowing toilet is often a local clog; our clogged toilet page and drain cleaning page go deeper.

No water

No water can mean a BWS main break or street work, a closed or failed valve, a broken service line, or a building shutdown. Ask a neighbor or management first; if it is just your property, we find where the supply stops.

Our Honolulu Emergency Plumber Process

  1. You call and we listen

We help you find the shut-off, decide if it is truly urgent, and give you an honest arrival window.

  2. We make it safe

On arrival, we stop the water or sewage and confirm there is no electrical or gas hazard.

  3. We find the cause

A wet ceiling is a symptom; a split line two floors up is the cause.

  4. We explain before we fix

You hear what failed and your options for a temporary or permanent repair before work starts.

  5. We repair and clean up

We make the repair you choose, test it under pressure, clean up, and note anything else worth watching.

Local Project Experience

Our emergency work spans Honolulu housing: high-rise condos in Waikiki and Kakaako, Kaimuki bungalows with tired galvanized lines, Manoa walk-ups near the university, and coastal homes in Hawaii Kai and Kahala. Each building type fails in its own way, and knowing those patterns helps us find problems faster. If that sounds like your place tonight, call (808) 649-6750.

Finding Our Location in Honolulu

Our office is at 2970 E Manoa Rd, Honolulu, HI 96822, just mauka of Manoa Marketplace, the center with Safeway, Longs and the post office. Morning Glass Coffee is a few doors down.

From H-1, take Exit 24B for University Avenue and head mauka past the UH campus. University Avenue becomes Oahu Avenue; turn onto East Manoa Road where it crosses Oahu Avenue and follow it mauka toward the Marketplace. From the Punahou Street exit, go up Punahou Street, which becomes Manoa Road past Nehoa Street, take the right fork after the Lanihuli Drive light onto East Manoa Road, and cross Oahu Avenue.

Here is the honest part. Manoa Valley has only two roads in and out, Manoa Road and University Avenue. For calls in Hawaii Kai, Kalihi or Pearl City our plumbers share H-1 with everyone else. That is why we give you a real arrival window instead of a slogan, and coach you through the shut-off first.

Nearby Communities We Serve

Beyond urban Honolulu, we take calls from Kailua (96734) and Kaneohe, where soft water and heavy windward rain shape the problems; Aiea (96701) and Pearl City, with hillside homes above Pearl Harbor; Waimanalo (96795), under the Koolau with both salt air and mountain rain; and Ewa Beach (96706), Kapolei (96707), Waipahu (96797) and Mililani (96789), where newer subdivisions sit beside older plantation-era areas. For these farther areas, we will tell you directly whether we can get there in a reasonable time.

Frequently Asked Questions About Emergency Plumbers in Honolulu

How fast can an emergency plumber in Honolulu get to me?

It depends on where you are, the time of day and how many calls are open. From Manoa we are closest to Makiki, Moiliili and McCully; Hawaii Kai, Kalihi or Pearl City depend on H-1 traffic. We give you an honest estimate on the phone.

Do you work as a 24 hour plumber in Honolulu?

You can call us any time, day or night. We will tell you honestly when we can have a plumber there, and if your problem can safely wait until morning, we will say that too.

How much does emergency plumbing repair cost in Honolulu?

It depends on the problem, access, parts and time of day. A replaced supply line is a very different job from a slab leak reroute or a water heater swap in a tight condo closet. We explain the work and what drives the cost before we start.

My condo is leaking into the unit below. What should I do first?

Close your unit shut-off or fixture valve, call building management or security so they can check below and shut a riser if needed, then call us. Take photos. Your association documents spell out who is responsible for which components.

Will flooding damage my plumbing?

It can. After events like the March 2026 Manoa flooding, have any water heater or gas appliance that sat in water checked before using it.

Do emergency repairs need a permit?

Small like-for-like repairs often do not, but rerouting lines, re-piping or replacing a water heater generally require a plumbing permit through DPP. We explain what your repair needs and coordinate so the work is inspected when required.
